Sunita's

Nitya suggested we meet at a bar whose name I had never heard of. Sunita's is very much a name from the Indian sub continent, so were the two of us and admittedly I was rather curious. Since that evening, I have thrown a wonderful birthday party at Sunita's (the pictures depict the revelry) and have been back a few times not only because the owner Sunita Lofters is an incredible mixologist but she also happens to be the most gracious of hostesses. Recently a drink of her creation called 'The Perfect Affair' won a Relais and Chateaux's cocktail competition plus a link to their collection of most beautiful restaurant and hotels in the world.

Sunita grew up in Guyana along with 10 brothers and sisters and came to America at the age of 16. She remembers her childhood as being spent surrounded by elaborately prepared meals from the family kitchen, instrumental in developing her taste for fresh ingredients and well prepared food. Presently at her bar, she is able to channel her creativity into the incredible cocktails that she creates with exotic herbs, spices and fruits. After 6 years of being open she tells me that the excitement of opening every afternoon mirrors the initial excitement she experienced when she first opened. The walls of the lounge also function as an art gallery showcasing the works of contemporary downtown artists. Right now the collage and art of Jarvis Earnshaw is on view until the end of January 2010.

  1. I will try this place based on your review, which was great.

I will also remember the cultural information when invited to Ming's restaurant in Metuchen, NJ.
